While the most serious cases of scarring are normally caused by the more severe forms of acne, you may notice slight scarring or pigmentation after less severe forms as well. This is why it is wise to seek treatment for acne shortly after it appears in order to prevent further acne and potential scarring.
After acne lesions have healed, they often leave a hyperpigmented mark on the surface of this skin. This is normally seen as the skin undergoes the healing and remodeling process. If redness is still noted after one year, it is considered to be a permanent scar.
Tips for Treating Early Acne Scars
Limit your exposure to the sun as it may cause more damage and delay healing. If you must be exposed to the sun, wear a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.
The use of tretinoin ( Retin-A) can speed the skin’s remodeling process and help heal post-inflammatory redness.
Avoid picking at acne scabs. Removing a scab before it is ready will interrupt the natural healing and remodeling process of your skin.

SKIN’s eMatrix Sublative Rejuvenation
What is the eMatrix?
The eMatrix™ system with Syneron’s unique Sublative Rejuvenation™ treatment employs RF energy to go beyond fractional methods for skin resurfacing. The RF energy causes mild ablation, eliciting an accelerated healing response. Fine lines, wrinkles and superficial skin discoloration are reduced, and skin texture becomes more smooth and elastic. Treatments are clinically proven to be effective on all skin types and have virtually no associated down time.
- eMatrix is clinically proven to treat fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and textural irregularities
- Little to no downtime post-treatment and you return to regular activities following treatment.
- Sublative Rejuvenation with the eMatrix is the “all-natural” approach to enhancing your youthfulness, since it works from the inside out by simulating cell regrowth.
Results will therefore last longer and can be further enhanced with yearly maintenance treatments.
- A full-face treatment session takes less than 20 minutes
How does Sublative Rejuvenation work?
The energy is delivered beneath the surface of the skin, maximizing collagen production with minimal disruption to the exterior of the skin. Its ability to focus the energy deep in the dermis without overheating the surface of the skin is a unique feature of the Ematrix. This enables it to produce the results normally reserved for more aggressive treatments without the downtime.
Who should be treated with Sublative Rejuvenation?
Treatment is a safe and effective solution for all skin types and may result in improvement of …
• Wrinkles
• Skin laxity
• Scars
• Acne scars
• Textural irregularities
• Tone
• Superficial skin lesions
When can I expect to see results?
Following treatment you may notice improvements in your skin’s tone and texture as a result of increased levels of collagen and the production of new healthy skin cells. With the treatment's dermal impact, mild to moderate wrinkles and superficial skin discolorations are reduced. Typical treatment plans consist of 3 or more treatments, 4 - 6 weeks apart. The total number of required treatment sessions depends on the condition of your skin.
How will I tolerate Sublative Rejuvenation treatments?
During treatment, you may feel a warm, prickly sensation as energy enters your skin. After treatment a pink or red "sunburn" appearance and feeling is also common. Topical anesthetic
ointments and cooling are often used to reduce any discomfort during treatment.
How it Works
Sublative Rejuvenation is a non-laser and non-light−based treatment that utilizes RF sublation—fractionated bipolar radio frequency technology—to place the heat energy effectively into the dermis where it can produce significant dermal impact with minimal epidermal disruption.

Efficacious RF Sublation: Significant Dermal Impact with Minimal Epidermal Disruption
- The ergonomic applicator delivers bipolar radio frequency energy via a matrix of 64 electrodes in the disposable applicator tip.
- The RF energy generates deep dermal heating in the region of the electrode matrix to induce mild skin ablation, causing an accelerated healing response.
- Less affected tissue around the matrix points may be stimulated by the heat, helping to accelerate the healing process—and leading to the appearance of tighter, more rejuvenated skin.
eMatrix Features:
- Quick treatments: typically 10 to 20 minutes depending on area treated
- Minimal downtime so patients can quickly resume their normal activities
- Short treatment protocol: 3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart
- Safe for all skin types
SelectPulse™ Adds Versatility
The SelectPulse feature includes three Sublative Rejuvenation programs, allowing treatment to be customized for individual patients by adjusting the depth and intensity of dermal heating.
Program A—Shallow Impact: Mild ablation, dermal heating and skin resurfacing—for improvements in overall skin tone and texture.
Program B—Mid-Level Impact: Moderate ablation, dermal heating and skin resurfacing—for color and textural irregularity correction.
Program C—Deepest Impact: Intense ablation and skin resurfacing.
SKIN ‘s Fractional Skin Resurfacing
SKIN MediSpa introduces the next generation in laser technology that helps improve skin texture through skin resurfacing. This innovative technology is designed to visibly improve the skin’s surface and texture by stimulating the production of collagen. It offerseffective skin resurfacing that is both convenient and comfortable.
The Harmony Pixel is an advanced skin laser that provides the resurfacing benefits of ablative skin resurfacing without the pain and recovery time associated with older technologies. The laser pulses create tiny ablative zones, targeting the epidermis and upper dermis. The treatment then triggers the body’s natural healing process, stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin tissue and diminishing acne scars, wrinkles, lines, and hyperpigmentation.
SKIN MediSpa’s fractional resurfacing treatments are especially effective at diminishing acne scarring, fine lines and pigmentation. Resurfacing treatments target about 20% of the skin surface at each session making it possible to resurface sensitive areas such as around the eyes, the neck and hands. Depending on the amount of energy used during the treatment session, redness and/or flaking typically lasts 3-6 days rather than the many weeks experienced with traditional laser resurfacing.
How Does it Work?
SKIN MediSpa’s Pixel Laser uses a pre-programmed laser beam that passes through the pixel micro optic lens, splitting the beam into tiny dots which penetrate into the skin. It creates an ablative effect at the pixel area - a micro injury - without disturbing any surrounding tissue. The micro injured areas then start the process of healing as collagen remodels, skin tightens and the skin texture improves.
What are the Treatments Like?
Depending on the energy used during the treatment session, the treatment may cause mild discomfort to a moderate burning sensation. No local anesthetic is required, however, a specialized cooling device is used throughout the treatment to maximize comfort. Following treatment, a mild sunburn type sensation may be experienced for 3-4 hours, then virtually no discomfort at all. No pain medication is required and you can return to work immediately with camouflage makeup. There is some down time following treatment, again, depending on the energy level applied during the treatment session.
How Many Treatments are Required?
The number of sessions required to maximize textural improvement of the skin will depend on individual characteristics, however, 3 to 6 sessions, 2-4 weeks apart is a general guideline. Skins with a higher moisture content tend to respond more quickly than dry skin, so if skin is dry, an additional treatment or two may be advantageous. Generally, the higher the energy used during the treatment sessions, the greater the textural improvements to be expected in the treated areas. Energy settings for each treatment are determined by the client’s tolerance of the treatment itself, as well as their acceptance of redness and flaking in the days immediately following the treatment.
What is the Difference Between SKIN’s Fractional Resurfacing Treatments and Other Fractional Laser Options?
Unlike other fractional lasers, this laser requires no topical anesthetic or messy dyes, therefore reducing the risk of a bronzing or tattooing effect. Clients typically experience little discomfort during the treatment, little irritation as the skin heals, and a shorter recovery period. Other fractional lasers have been known to create long term redness and pigmentation changes, whereas no such complications exist for the Harmony Pixel technology used at SKIN MediSpa.
